About MeThe Reverend Dr. Samuel Trail was born on 31 May 1806. The son of John Trail and Ann Ritchie, he was the oldest of five siblings. He was educated at King's College, Aberden, and later became Professor of Systematic Theology there. In 1841 he married Helen Scott with whom he had five children. The youngest son, James William Trail became professor of Botany at Kings College from 1875-1919. Throughout his life, Dr. Trail kept a meticulous record of all his purchases and business transactions. These receipts provide a fascinating insight into the costs of living in the 19th century as well as important information about local businesses in Aberdeen.
