About MeJean-Louis Forain expressed himself through the depiction of the human figure. He earned a profitable career as a satirical cartoonist for the Parisian Journals and proved to be a master draughtsman in etching and lithography. He was influenced by both Degas and by the great satirical realist, Honoré Daumier and adopted his courtroom subject matter.

In this painting, Forain has focused on the quiet waiting room of the court, where the advocate consults with his clients. The artist has mirrored Daumier's restricted palette and simplified forms. There is no glamour to the subject. Rather, it is a comment on the justice and injustice of contemporary life.
More About Me
Fourain, much influenced by Degas and Daumier, expressed himself in depicting the human figure: here an advocate consults his clients outside the courtroom.
