About MeJ. Arnesby Brown was a pupil of Hubert von Herkomer, studying at his art school at Bushey in Hertfordshire. He specialised in landscape painting and often included cattle in his paintings. Although he kept a studio in London, he also spent a lot of time in Cornwall and Norfolk, where the flat landscape proved to be an inspiration. His home was at Haddiscoe, Norfolk, where he died on 16 November 1955.
