About MeThis case is made from Sylavethie stone, from Donside, by Montgarrie. It is a dark grey stone with large flecks of mica. The central boss for the clock is flanked by two bosses. On these bosses is the Aberdeen Coat of Arms in faded guilding . At the base of the clock is the date 1870 and also the intertwined initials WF. We don't know who WF was, but they more likely to be the recipient of the clock rather than the mason.

The clockcase has been cut from one piece of stone by hand. Later 20th century versions would have had the bosses turned seperately and then attached. The skill of the mason can be seen in the way in which a good circle has been cut for the bosses. It is clear that the mason's skills were lacking in the cutting of the coat of arms, in contrast with the general body of the case this aspect of the work looks very poor.
