About MeThe furrier has used the surprisingly soft and shiny ponyskin to great effect, creating a chevron pattern by cutting it into strips and stitching it in a way that exploits the different natural shades of brown and chestnut. Ponyskin is an unusual choice for a fur coat but was not uncommon when fur was at its most popular, as a less expensive alternative to mink or even the more exotic and rare big cat skins. In some ways it made good use of this material, which was a by-product of the European meat industry, in the way that leather is for the beef industry in the UK today.
