About MeBlack and white floral satin afternoon dress with short sleeves and full skirt cut on the bias.

The dress appears to be home-made, which is very likely given that it dates to the end of the 1940s when clothes rationing, brought in during the Second World War, was still in place. Hostesses during this period struggled to maintain the glamorous standards of the previous decade and came up with ingenious ways to compensate for shortages, including making their own clothes.
