About MeThis late 19th century carriage skirt was a must during the days before modern heated cars. Carriages and trains were cold and draughty so most passengers made use of thick travelling rugs and blankets. This skirt was designed to combat the cold: similar to a continental quilt, it is padded with swansdown.
