About MeThe very last type of groat minted for James IV of Scotland is noteworthy in that something approaching a natural likeness replaces the stylized portrait on the obverse of the coin. This was a remarkable development since, apart from an earlier experiment in the same reign, no realistic portrait of the human face had previously appeared on coins of either Scotland of England.Although the example illustrated bears the Edinburgh mint name, coins of this type were also struck in Aberdeen. They were, as far as we can tell, the final products of the Aberdeen mint.
