About MeThe silver pennies by Alexander II were, for many years, little more than copies of the last issues of his father, William the Lion. Even the name on the coins did not change; only in the last years of the reign did 'Alexander' replace 'William' . The designs likewise remained almost unchanged.

Minting activity in Central Scotland occurred only briefly in this reign. The principal centres of activity were in the Borders at Roxburgh (of which this coin is a product) and Berwick.
