About MeRobert Brough is said to be one of the first Scottish Post Impressionists and developed this style from his studies at the Royal Scottish Academy, where his best friend was S.J.Peploe and also travels abroad to Paris, Brittany, Spain and Morocco. He took inspiration from the French Impressionists, the Synthesists and to an extent the Nabis; whose works he would have seen whilst abroad.

This early academic work was probably completed in the life drawing class in Edinburgh. Executed in charcoal it is detailed and accurate, revealing Brough's prodigious talents that he was later to utilise as a portraitist.
