About MeLike Nicholson, Hilton uses the date of the painting's execution as the title for this abstract work. Hilton first visited St. Ives in 1956 on the invitation of Patrick Heron. He subsequently spent his summers renting a studio in Newlyn and St. Ives. A year after Hilton painted this work, he moved permanently to Penwith in West Cornwall. Hilton was a friend of both Patrick Heron and William Scott.More About Me
The title of this work refers to the date that is was created. Hilton was living in Penwith, West Cornwall at the time, and the influence of the chilly coastal days can clearly be seen.
