About MeAndrew Robertson was one of the finest Scottish miniaturists. He studied under Alexander Nasmyth and Sir Henry Raeburn. This forceful self portrait, in which the artist is depicted full face with a determined expression, shows Robertson's typical style of painting, characterised by precise drawing and rich colour, here shown to his best with his delightful Hunting Ancient Robertson tartan jacket. The artist lived and worked in London for most of his life and there became a favourite artist of George III. He painted miniature portraits of several members of the Royal Family, including five of George III's children (also in the collections of Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums).
