About MeMichael Angelo Rooker was known for his ability to portray architecture in watercolour and this work - which depicts the oldest iron bridge in the world - exemplifies his preference for a combination of pen, ink and watercolour which he used up until the 1780s. During the mid 18th century draughtsmen had focused on recording places of antiquarian or architectural interest. However, towards the end of the century, there was a shift in subject matter. Newly built factories and man-made technological marvels were championed over those from ancient times. This growing interest in modern architecture was fuelled by the Industrial Revolution and came to feature large in contemporary art.
