About MeThe sitter in this study, posing as a virgin or saint, looks very Victorian, both in terms of her hairstyle and her docile manner. Given the date of the work it is tempting to surmise that the sitter may be Jane Brand, whom Dyce was to marry the following year.
Jane's family came from Milnathort, near Kinross and this work was obviously painted in Scotland; it is inscribed Crossgate Manse. The location has not yet been discovered but there is a Crossgate in Cupar, Fife although it is a short street with no building that could obviously have been a manse.

More About Me

A very delicate pencil drawing where you can't even see the pencil strokes.
