About MeDavid Cox was an important figure in the development of British landscape and watercolour painting. From 1804-1840 he worked solely in watercolour, only taking up oil painting later in life. He made a speciality of capturing light, atmosphere and weather effects. One of Cox's favourite painting grounds was North Wales, which he first visited in 1805. The broad style of this landscape sketch - with washes of colour and spirited brushwork - conveys a sense of light, movement and a breezy freshness.
