About MeDuring the summer months when she was not teaching, Johnstone spent much of her time at Kirkcudbright when it had the reputation of being something of an artist's colony. Based around E. A. Taylor and Jessie King's home in Greengate Close, artistic visitors to the colony included Cecile Walton, Eric Robertson and Anne Finlay. This work was painted whilst Johnstone was on a visit to Kirkcudbright. The almost entirely white canvas of 'Summer Sunshine' sparkles with intense, bright summer light.

In a scene sparkling with intense summer light, a girl wearing a seasonal white dress and bonnet pauses by the side of a house to enjoy the warm sunshine.
