About MeThis exquisite sugar bowl and cover was produced at the Meissen factory in Dresden. It has been decorated in the Japanese Kakiemon style with a sparse application of flowers in soft red, yellow, blue and turquoise green. Characteristically much of the white background has been left undecorated to show off the fine porcelain. The 2-dimensional flowers and crossed bundles of corn are Japanese in influence, while the delicate moulded flowers on the cover are rather more European and a good example of Meissen at its best.

More About Me
Items such as this represent the increase in international trade in the 17th and 18th centuries. Imported foodstuffs could be stored in containers inspired by ceramics imported from the Far East.
