About MeThis tea jar is decorated with gilt lace designs and two well executed purple landscape scenes which are enclosed by palm leaves and scrolls surmounted by a vase with plants, forming a kind of mini-arabesque motif which was increasingly popular at this time. The lower register of the jar is decorated by a series of vertical gilded stripes. The cover has a gilded finial, flute designs, two polychrome scrolls and acanthus motifs. This tea jar is part of a porcelain tea service which includes tea bowls, saucers and a hot water jug, all with the same gilt fluting and lace designs as well as painted sprigs of flowers and landscape vignettes.

More About Me
When tea was first introduced to Europe it was expensive. The containers that held the tea were often decorative and expensive too. This one is decorated with gilt, flower motifs and landscape vignettes.
