The exaggerated bustle of the mid 1880s has disappeared again. There is still fullness at the back of the skirt but no true bustle and the whole silhouette is rather more streamline. The hip-line closes in sharply over the waist and the bodice ascends long and slender over the bust and shoulders. It is at this time that the leg o'mutton sleeve starts to develop.
