About MePACNORSE 1 was a purpose built Pelican class drilling vessel. It was built on the Clyde at the Scott Lithgow Yard. Entering service in 1979 it spent the early part of its career on the shallow fields of the UK sector of the North Sea. Drill ships, even those such as PACNORSE with their advanced dynamic positioning systems (vital to maintain accurate, regular and safe drilling activity), are not really suitable for drilling in deep water nor severe weather. Both frequently encountered in the North Sea.

In its later career it drilled some of the deepest wells in the Canadian Arctic.

PACNORSE I was finally retired and scrapped in 2019.
