About MeAfter two decades of inactivity under Robert II, Aberdeen mint recommenced operations for Robert III whose reign began in 1390. As can be seen on this Aberdeen groat the most noticeable change in the design of the Scottish silver coinage at this period is the replacement of the Scottish profile head by a full-face portrait in the English style.

In the early 15th century a further reduction was made in the weight of the Scottish coinage. This Aberdeen-mint Robert III groat is from the earlier 'heavy' coinage but examples of the later light coinage groats bearing the Aberdeen mint name are also known.
