About MeJames Coutts Michie was born at Aboyne, near Aberdeen. He studied at Edinburgh, Rome and in Paris, settling in London around 1890 and from then on exhibiting at the leading London exhibitions. Michie travelled extensively and visited France, Italy, Spain and Morocco.

Like so many artists of the 19th century, he was charmed by the exotic world of North Africa and lived in Tangier for several years. 'Street in Tangier' effectively captures the dazzling light of Morocco and the simple life of its inhabitants.
