About MeWilliam Alexander was born in Chapel of Garioch in 1826. The editor of the Aberdeen Free Press, he was also the author of the Doric classic ‘Johnny Gibb of Gushetneuk’. Reid based another likeness of the author for the frontispiece of the book on this portrait and, when Alexander died in 1894, the sculptor James Pittendrigh Macgillivray based his memorial bust (in Nellfield Cemetary) on this portrait.
