About MeSir George Reid (1841 – 1913) was one of Scotland’s most accomplished and highly successful artists of the nineteenth century. He was especially highly regarded as a portrait painter.

Reid bought St Luke’s in Aberdeen's Viewfield Road in 1870 and employed the Glasgow architect William Leiper to extend the simple cottage, turning it into one of the city's most interesting homes. As President of the Royal Scottish Academy, Reid spent much of his time in Edinburgh but returned to Aberdeen for the summer months, staying with other members of the family at St Luke’s.
