About MeBohler's rotating stirrup for skeletal traction; with swivel fixing pieces for Steinmann's pins. A Steinmann or Denham pin was inserted through the tibia; the stirrup was fitted to the pin and cord attached to the loop to apply a pull maintained by weights or fixed to a Thomas splint. Nurses Had to ensure the traction was maintained and the collars were screwed tight, that the pins were not loose and that no infection occurred at the entry point of the pins to the wound.
