About MeAs a boy, John Everett Millais demonstrated a prodigious talent for drawing with an amazing technical ability. He entered Henry Sass' drawing school in 1838 and the Royal Academy Schools in London in 1840. With Holman Hunt and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, he founded the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Inspired by early Italian art, they wished to produce art with a moral purpose.

Millais eventually distanced himself from the PRB in the 1850s, but his illustrations to Dalziel's 'Parables of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ', show continuity with his Pre-Raphaelite work. The three paintings are watercolour versions of three of his parable illustrations: 'The Leaven', 'The Pharisee and the Publican' and 'The Hidden Treasure'.
