About MeCharles Murray was one of Scotland’s most popular poets during the early 20th century. His works, written in his native Doric, gained recognition for their energy and insight. Fellow novelist and poet, Nan Shepherd, reflected on his work: “It is a record of a way of living already altered and of customs and conventions that have vanished. But it is more than a record, it is an affirmation of life.” This sculpture was made of Charles when he was aged 61, soon after he retired from writing.
