About MeBy the mid-1890s, James Pittendrigh MacGillivray had moved back to Edinburgh from Glasgow. With increasingly important commissions and a growing family to accommodate, he built a large house with a studio on Ravelston Hill in the city.
This cast dates from 1913 and was done on MacGillivray's recommendation for Aberdeen Art Gallery. The original cast was taken in 1895 and the sitter is MacGillivray's younger daughter Ehrna Mycale, who would only have been three at the time. The marks of MacGillivray's tools and fingers are clearly visible in the rough, dynamic handling of the hair, skin and body.
