About MeArtist William Littlejohn was Head of Drawing and Painting at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen from 1970. His early work was strongly influenced by James Cowie and Ben Nicholson. However this watercolour is more typical of his later style, which fully embraced abstraction.

Here the artist has used a variety of media and effects, adding collaged elements to the painting - some of the shapes have been torn from already painted paper and glued onto the surface. The title, 'From a Notebook' suggests that the grid-like compositon may have evolved from an arrangement of pages from a sketchbook.
