About MeThe island rock is situated at the mouth of Dickmont's Den. In the finished painting Cowie has relocated the rock to a position in front of the Needle's E'e.

The artist used this sketch of an island rock near Arbroath to help prepare for a rather surrealist oil painting "The Evening Star", which is also in Aberdeen’s collection.
