About MeThis locally made late 14th to 15th-century jug was reconstructed from many sherds. It would have held 2.6 litres of liquid.
The jug has patchy green glaze, a thumbed base, simple pulled spout and applied scale decoration. There are vertical black lines running down the jug from under the spout, where the jug has been placed on a bed of charcoal.
There are a number of medieval craft recipes which use this technique including one for the preparation of red lead.
