About MeMid warm brown wool shawl with woven inserts.

Almost square, finely knitted wool shawl made of joined pieces with abutted seams rather than applique layers.

There is a central round section with radiating floral pattern and border and a star-shaped centre. The shawl border is quite deep and sewn onto the tan shawl body. Floral quarters form spandrels in the inner corners of the border and they are formed from an identical piece as the central panel.

The tan wool fringe around the border piece is also applied with an abutted seam.
More About Me

A must-have fashion accessory for ladies in the mid-19th century. Radiating floral patterns and border with an intricate star-shaped centre this shawl is a fine example of Scottish textiles.
