About MeThis print was based on the watercolour miniature on ivory of George, 5th Duke of Gordon by Andrew Robertson, also in the collections of Aberdeen Art Gallery (ABDAG003921). George Gordon (1770-1836) sat for Robertson in London. Robertson was very pleased with the miniature writing:
"his picture promises to be very superior to anything I have done".
It was engraved almost immediately, the prints selling at 15 shillings each.
Re-framing the Collection
George Gordon was recorded as having been at first listed ‘adverse’ to the abolition of chattel slavery and was then later transferred to ‘doubtful’.
