About MeOne of a number of letters that have survived written by Captain Matheson. This one is a farewell letter to Gracie, written three days after the Thermopylae set out on a voyage to Melbourne in Australia.

At the time there was an 'informal' mail service between vessels. When ships passed close at sea they would often transfer letters from their crews to the vessel bound in the opposite direction. Often letters were posted ahead to ports where the vessel was due to put in.
It was common that the recipient would get a 'bundle' of letters of varying dates at the same time.
