About MeMatsumara Keibun was a leading figure in the Shijo school which his half-brother, Matsumara Goshun founded. Keibun was known particularly for his bird and flower compositions like this print. As his popularity as an artist grew his designs were included, with those of Goshun and other Kyoto based artists, in woodblock-printed picture-books (ehon). It is likely that this print was designed for that purpose, as it is inscribed 'vol 2 (of 2) no.9.'
