About MeA lag screw is a screw that is used to obtain compression between two bony segments - interfragmentary compression. A lag screw by design consists of threads intended for bone purchase on one side of the fracture and a smaller diameter smooth shank which permits and guides interfragmentary compression beneath the screw head on the opposite side of the fracture.
