About MeThis highly detailed work depicts the presentation of a group of archers before their leaders, situated in the large building on the right. Archery played an important role in battle and as a ritual for thousands of years in China. The artist picks out a variety of specific details within the scene, such as the group of archers waiting to be presented, other archers mounting horses and more ordinary figures watching proceedings from the side. The work is set before a dramatic mountainous backdrop and the wash of pale blue used to represent the grass and hills contrasts with the brightly coloured costumes of the figures and horses.Sir William Allan
