About MeThe Waterloo branch followed the route of the Aberdeenshire Canal to the docks. It was opened to goods traffic in September of 1855 and the following year to passengers. This was a steep section of the line but it was thought to be worth the cost as it gave access to the docks. However, it was not the most convenient of arrangements. The rail line from the south terminated Guild Street (originally at Ferryhill) so any passenger wishing to transfer north and south faced the prospect of walking or being pulled in horse drawn wagons along the quays. This was finally rectified in 1867 when the Denburn Valley line was laid and the Joint Station was opened.
