About MeShell dressing in cotton pouch, with directions for use on exterior.

Beige cotton pouch with white cotton tie and safety pin holding it closed. The dressing was not removed for inspection due to fragility but the upper surface appears to be a waxed linen or similar, now a brown colour. The side of the pouch is printed with black ink:

WAR OFFICE MEDICAL DIVISION.
SHELL DRESSING.
TO OPEN. Outer cover: Pull tapes apart.
Inner Waterproof Cover, Tear apart the
uncemented corners.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE. - Push the glass ampoule
out of the tube. Hold it in a vertical position and strike
the padded end downwards against some hard surface,
so as to break the end of the glass bulb contained within
the pad. The iodine will at once saturate the pad, by
means of which it should be freely applied to the wound
and surrounding skin. Take folded ends of bandage in
each hand, and keeping bandage taut, apply blue surface
of pad to wound and fix bandage.
DO NOT HANDLE WOUND OR BLUE SURFACE OF PAD>
