About MeMaureen Hodge is an influential and important figure in Scottish tapestry weaving, first working at the Edinburgh Tapestry Co from 1965 -1973, though after 1970 she was also teaching at Edinburgh College of Art. She was Head of Tapestry from 1973 until her retirement in 2006.

Under her influence an interest in tapestry has been rekindled, both through the quality and quantity of students graduating from her course and her encouragement of public exhibitions of tapestry, giving the medium a fresh status and equality with more traditional works of art.

This particular tapestry, commissioned for the Crawford Arts Centre, St Andrews, is an excellent example of the grid form that has dominated her work. The artist has used the unusual colour choice of black, dark greys and navy. She has exploited tonal changes and textures to create pattern and depth.
