Isaac Beaton, a senior member of the shipbuilding firm, John Lewis, had to attend the sea trials. This is not an unusual incident, though interestingly enough Mr. Beaton suffered terrible sea sickness so on ship trial in bad weather he would stay under the deck and have another member of staff observe the state of the trials on deck, and report the progress to him.
