05/03/1835:
"On Wednesday, as the Inverness trader, MANFRED, McKidd was coming up the firth, she was driven the gale on the South Carr or Scougall Rock, near Seacliffe House, and almost immediately sunk in deep water. The crew had only time to lower the boat and get into it when the vessel went down; they were, therefore, unable save anything but the clothes they had on at the time. On Thursday morning, the Dunbar fishermen descried the top mast of a vessel in the fairway between the Bass and Dunbar. They succeeded in bringing the vane away. It gilt surmounted with a thistle, and has the letter M marked on it. The mast is about six feet above the water, and the vessel is sunk in 13 fathoms water, about a mile from where the unfortunate Czar was lost. There is no doubt that this must the wreck of MANFRED."

27/06/1835:
"Great exertions have been made for some time past to weigh the vessel MANFRED of Montrose, whichb went down off Dunbar about two months ago, laden with whiskey, but hitherto without success. Lately two puncheons of her whiskey were found at sea, and are consigned with the Excise. It is nowise injured by the sea water, and as the vessell does not seem to be broken up, there are still hopes entertained of raising her."
