Re-framing the Collection
Scottish Liberal politician, philanthropist, Lord Provost of Aberdeen and MP, founder of the Aberdeen Line Shipping Company. Married the daughter of James Kidd, who was a noted abolitionist in Aberdeen. His father, Andrew Thomson, was a member of the East India Company (colonial links but also the company itself had strong links to slavery). Thompson entered into the tea trade with ships such as Thermopylae. Painted by George Reid.
