About MeBaker Hughes was formed in 1987 with the merger of Baker International and Hughes Tool Company – both founded over 100 years ago.

Hughes Christiansen were one of the earliest oilfield drill bit manufacturers and was founded in 1907. It became fully part of Baker Hughes following the merger in 1987.
Baker Hughes have a number of other companies operating under their banner through acquisition which operate in the oil business:

Brown Oil Tools, CTC, EDECO, and Elder Oil Tools (completions); Milchem and Newpark (drilling fluids); EXLOG (mud logging); Eastman Christiansen and Drillex, Western Atlas
