Upon retiring in 1876, John passed the business to his son John Haper (Junior) and retired to Seafield House. His younger son, Louis Harper continued the suspension bridge work of the business.
The Craiginches premises were erected for Harpers Limited in 1892 and were used until the company went into liquidation in 1958. After this the premises were bought and used by George Cassie and son Ltd until 1982.
