About MeGeorge Cassie and Son Ltd began as a blacksmith's business in 1822.

The first recorded entry for the firm in the Aberdeen Directory appears in the "Old Aberdeen" section of the 1878-1879 volume, under the simple title of George Cassie Blacksmith, the address then given as 4 King Street Road. With the expansion of the city limits out towards the Bridge of Don and the extension of King Street this address later becomes 600 King Street. The business operated at these premises until the 1960s when they took over the former Harpers Ltd premises in Torry.

Up until World War 1 the firm was mainly concerned with the trade of the blacksmith, however, like many similar businesses the war brought important changes. The demand for munitions and related engineering products during the war encouraged the firm to branch out beyond the confines of blacksmithing and into more general engineering. In 1920 the business began to advertise in mechanical engineering.

The war also stimulated the firm into closer connections with the local granite industry becoming a specialist manufacturer of stone working and handling machinery.

In 1982 the firm went into receivership, closely related to the severe decline in the local granite industry from the 1970s onwards on which Cassie's was heavily dependent.
