Loch Street Soapy Ogstens, Former City Taxis site

E33
DescriptionSite of a soap and candle works - Ogston and Tennant's Soap and Candle Factory ('Soapy Ogston's'). Five trenches excavated in 1991 by Aberdeen City Council Archaeological Unit on the former City Taxi's site on the site to assess the archaeological potential of the former soap and candle factory recorded no significant archaeological features or artefacts. Substantial medieval remains had been found on adjoining sites during previous excavations, but disturbance on this site had removed all traces of the medieval backlands from this site. It was determined, however, that the eastern edge of the medieval loch of Aberdeen had not impinged onto this site.
