General History:
GRANTON MERLIN was a motor trawler built for W. Carnie of Granton, Edinburgh that fished around Shetlands and local North Sea grounds. GRANTON MERLIN fished for the company until 1978 when she was coverted to a standby safety vessel for H. I. Williams, Granton, and renamed UMBERLEIGH, under which name it was working up to 2001.
Notes:
"Mrs. William Carnie, wife of a director of the owning company, named the GRANTON MERLIN".
