About MeThe certified midwife's badge was introduced in 1928, although the blue enamel was only introduced during the 1940s, and was in use until 1962.Originally a midwife first had to train as a registered general nurse (RGN), then as a midwife but in 1990 stand alone schemes were introduced. RGN trained midwives had to attend statutory refresher courses every 5 years and were practitioners in their own right.
The reverse is inscribed with the Edith May Adam's name, registration number and date of registration. Edith May Adam trained at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Aberdeen Maternity Hospital during the 1950s.
