About MeCircular badge with City of Aberdeen coat of arms in the centre. Inscribed in a blue border around the edge "ROYAL INFIRMARY / ABERDEEN".

This badge was initiated by the matron of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI), Miss F.E.Kaye on the inception of the Nurses' League in 1937. Prior to statutory training and state registration, nurses could show evidence of their training and competence to practice on production of their certificates.

It seems that the first ARI badge was that promoted and introduced by the Nurses League. It was seen as a very positive thing, creating a strong sense of loyalty to the hospital and it would help nurses employed elsewhere in the country to recognise common training roots. The design of the badge and adoption of the City's coat of arms seems to have been a fairly casual affair, the league secretary seemingly asked the Town Clerk for permission and he agreed.
More About Me
